This is the last part of this series, only eleven more verses of curses to go. NKJV version.
Deuteronomy 28:58, “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD THY GOD,”
28:59, “Then the LORD will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues — great and prolonged plagues — and serious and prolonged sickness.”
28:60, “Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you.”
28:61, “Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this book of the law, will the lord bring upon you until you are destroyed.”
28:62, “You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God.”
God is repeating Himself again. When God repeats Himself, he’s really serious. The more He repeats Himself, the more serious He is. Plague and sickness have been warned about a lot of times already, and those plagues and sicknesses we are already seeing. Now we are being warned of illegal immigrants from Central America carrying nasty diseases, of which we have little immunity, over our southern border into our land.
28:63, “And it shall be, that just as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you and bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land which you go to possess.”
28:64, “Then the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known — wood and stone.”
Here the scripture is talking about displacement. Making the people of the nation under judgement a bunch of refugees, scattered to the wind.
28:65, “And among those nations you shall find no rest, nor shall the sole of your foot have a resting place; but there the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and anguish of soul.”
28:66, “Your life shall hang in doubt before you; you shall fear day and night, and have no assurance of life.”
28:67, “In the morning you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were morning!’ because of the fear that terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes shall see.”
We are being warned that we will live in complete terror, never knowing when our last breath could be.
28:68, “And the LORD will take you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I said to you, ‘You shall never see it again.’ And there you will be offered for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will by you.”
This is the best explanation I could come up with, since I could not otherwise figure out how this verse could relate to modern culture. ‘Egypt’ could be a reference to a ‘spiritual Egypt’, i.e. the state we were in before we were dedicated to God. Possibly, we could be handed back to Britain, (and Europe) since we came out of them like ancient Israel came out of ancient Egypt. We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out. I do believe this verse also talks about that when our blessing is taken away, we will be so despicable in the eyes of our enemies that they would want nothing to do with us.
